The Scapegoat:

In the old days the priest would take a wool string and dip into the blood of the sacrifice that was put on the scapegoat. It would then be hung up outside the sanctuary for the people to see. When the scapegoat finally made it to the wilderness and the sacrifice was accepted by God, the thread would turn white. The first year after Jesus' death and resurrection was the first year the thread did not change. The sacrifice was no longer accepted because the one true sacrifice had already been made. (Lev 16:7-8)

The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to a solitary land and he shall release the goat in the wilderness. (Isaiah 53:6) all of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way, but the lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on him. (Isaiah 1:18) if your sins be as scarlet they shall be as white as snow.

God was reminding the people that Jesus is the true scapegoat once and for all . Jesus fulfilled the promise of both goats. He paid the penalty for all our sins and removed our sins as well!

When Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not of this creation and not through the blood of goats and calves , but through His own blood HE entered the holy place once and for all ,having obtained eternal redemption. My redeemer lives!!!
